The Library of Fine and Performing Arts contains the personal library of Franco Zeffirelli: nearly 8.000 volumes selected, purchased and collected by him, kept in his homes of Rome and Positano.
The Library therefore reflects the tastes, interests, intellectual history and professional documental needs of the Maestro.
It is mainly oriented towards the image in all its forms: fine arts, thus painting, sculpture, architecture, graphics, photography; applied arts, thus design, furniture, fashion; performing arts, as theatre, cinema, dance, set and costume design. There are also plenty of photobooks of places, cities, countries.
The Library also contains an important collection of texts dedicated to music and opera. In particular, it is rich in artists’ biographies, scores, librettos, theatre programmes.
The books are placed on the shelves in accordance with Franco Zeffirelli’s subdivision by subject, that reflects the conceptual and aesthetic motivations of the original order.
The original collection has been enhanced over the years by several precious donation of books, always referred to Fine and Performing Arts. Within the Library, the different Funds keep the name of the donors: Paciscopi, Del Medico, Giacompoli, Santini, Spiazzi.
The catalogue of the Library of Fine and Performing Arts is available online in the Catalogue of the Libraries that are part of the SDIAF. It is also available in the Catalogue of the National Library System (OPAC SBN).
All volumes are being catalogued according to international library guidelines and standards. The records are entered in real time into the catalogue where they can be found immediately.
