Franco Zeffirelli, Carlo Bergonzi, and the Accademia Verdiana of Busseto
The Zeffirelli Foundation is pleased to host a conference-concert celebrating the friendship and artistic collaboration between the great tenor Carlo Bergonzi and Franco Zeffirelli, featuring operatic performances by the artists of the Accademia Verdiana.
The event is organized by the Carlo Bergonzi Verdian Academy in honor of the recent recognition of Italian Opera Singing as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
The event is curated by Prof. Francesco Bellotto, musicologist and member of the Committee for the Safeguarding of Italian Opera Singing, with contributions by Maestro Alberto Paloscia, stage director and musicologist, and live performances of operatic arias by young singers from the Accademia Verdiana Carlo Bergonzi, introduced and accompanied on piano by the Academy’s Artistic Director, Maestro Simone Maria Marziali.

Prof. Francesco Bellotto – “Franco Zeffirelli and the Art of Italian Opera Singing: A Dramaturgy of Accents”
Maestro Alberto Paloscia – “Franco Zeffirelli as an ‘Emilian’: Between Giuseppe Verdi and Carlo Bergonzi”
The talks will be enriched by live performances of selected opera arias by Academy singers, retracing some of the most iconic collaborations between Franco Zeffirelli and Carlo Bergonzi, all introduced and accompanied on piano by Maestro Simone Maria Marziali.
